visions.jpg (222393 bytes)In times of change and  upheaval, some will turn to the ways and wisdom of the past and discover the spirit of Mother Earth.  It is in the light of her spirit that some will find their way out of the darkness to a new reality.  In that light a few will find the path back to the ways and wisdom of the past where they will discover their roots, and emerge as a new people.   This is their story.

SOMEWHERE IN THE CANADIAN FOREST

TWO MOONS SINCE THE TREES HAVE TREES HAVE RETURNED TO THEIR WINTER SLEEP

I no longer measure time in hours, days or years, nor do my people highlight the events of our life on a calendar.  We have left the world of racing traffic, deadlines, subdivisions, towers of glass and steel, and have returned home, to our roots.

It is two moons since the trees have returned to their long winter sleep.  Too cold to sleep, I lay awake most of the past night between my woman and the child we have come to call our own.  Both snuggle close to me under our deer and elk sleeping robes to draw enough warmth to keep sleeping.

I hear the sounds of approaching morning outside our lodge.   I gently slip out from under our robes to pull on my leggings and hooded tunic to take my turn at watch.   My woman and child melt into each other to fill in the void.  I look around gratefully at the others sleeping in the lodge who have helped us escape, and then back down on my woman and reflect of our future.   As fugitives, we will have to spend the rest of our lives hiding as nomads in the wilds.  But fugitives or not, we will remain nomads in the wilds now.  It has become our home, our way of life, and our destiny.
